The mission of the Kentucky Division of Water is to manage, protect and enhance the quality and quantity of the commonwealth's water resources for present and future generations through voluntary, regulatory and educational programs.
The emphasis of 2009 nonpoint source pollution (NPS) grants will be on watershed-based plan development and implementation in watersheds with impaired streams.
The Division of Water has made program changes to ensure funding is received consistent with project timelines. Five regional meetings are scheduled in May to introduce prospective applicants to the new application process. Local time is listed.

Wastewater treatment plants that are at or above 90 or 95 percent of their hydraulic and/or organic capacity are placed on a sewer sanction list. A draft report addressing water quality problems related to pathogens is available for public comment. The report, Proposed Draft Total Maximum Daily Load for Pathogens, Little River Watershed, Lower Cumberland Basin, Kentucky, has been prepared as required by the federal Clean Water Act. This report addresses pathogen impairments in the Little River and two of its tributaries, North Fork Little River and South Fork Little River. These watersheds are located in Christian, Trigg and Todd counties. Read the public notice and report.
